About Le Mitoyen
Walk into this genteel country house in Old Sainte-Rose and the rest of Laval — all its strip malls and highway overpasses — evaporates like it never existed. The dining room is warm wood and soft light, conversations kept at a civilized murmur, the kind of place where you can actually hear your date talk. They run tasting menus built around Québec game and seasonal produce, and the kitchen doesn't flinch from richness — expect sauces with real depth and proteins that taste like forest floor and cold autumn air. The desserts are almost recklessly indulgent, the sort of final courses that make you loosen your belt and stop pretending you care about restraint. Prices land firmly in special-occasion territory, but you feel it in the sourcing and the craft, not in some phony markup for tablecloths. Summer opens up the terrace, which takes the starch out of the experience and lets the old stone streetscape do some of the heavy lifting. Service is polished without being stiff — they know the wine list cold and won't sneer at honest questions. Reserve well in advance, bring somebody worth a long evening with, and if venison appears anywhere on that menu, order it without hesitation.
