Old Montreal's cobblestones right outside, and inside, exposed brick and dark wood that actually feel like they belong in a nineteenth-century building rather than being bolted on for effect. The rooms are comfortable without being fussy — proper linens, decent light, quiet enough despite the tourist foot traffic below. Not cheap, but you're paying for location and atmosphere that most boutique hotels in this neighborhood only pretend to have. Head straight for the rooftop bar at golden hour — the view of the port settles any argument about the rate.
