Le Trente sits at the base of Hotel Masse on Rue Victor Masse in the 9th, a bar-restaurant that plays the understated card and wins. The food is French and seasonal, cooked with the kind of restraint that suggests confidence rather than timidity. The cocktail program is serious without being preachy about it. The room itself feels like a private club you stumbled into by accident, all velvet and wood and the right amount of shadow. It fills up late and stays full, so arrive before nine if you want a table. Order the daily special and whatever the bartender recommends, they have not steered anyone wrong yet.
