Onii-San sits on Rue des Archives in the Marais, a proper izakaya that does not bother pretending to be anything else. The yakitori comes off the grill with char and salt in the right proportions, the gyoza are crisp and honest, and the small plates keep arriving until you lose count. Sake list is short but considered — ask the staff what is open and cold. The room is tight, the energy is good, and nobody is checking their phone. Come with someone you actually want to talk to, grab a seat at the counter if you can, and do not skip the karaage.
